Ebay bans virtual booty auctions

Okay, this type of booty wasn’t the first thing I thought of when I read this headline. I had visions of virtual booty calls on eBay. Good to know I wasn’t missing out on something like that.

Molly Ivins passes

I’ll miss her. She was one of my favorite liberals, someone who wasn’t ashamed of the term. Her, along with Ann Richards who also passed recently.
I’ll miss her.

don’t give your dog chewing gum

This was news to me when I heard it. It seems that xylitol, an artificial sweetener used in a lot of common things like chewing gum, can be fatal to dogs, even in small doses.

celebrity endorsements

I’ve never understood the concept of celebrity endorsements of political causes, or controversial issues. Why should I feel differently about the war in Iraq because Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins are speaking at a rally to end the war? And Jane Fonda? Give me a freakin’ break. I got a third degree burn on my left thigh from playing “Junior chemist” when I was 13. I was in the hospital for two weeks getting a skin graft to cover it up. I [...]

um, why do you think they call them “sloths”?

As much as I love doing scientific research as a profession, I’ve always needed to believe that what I’m doing had a real purpose, and benefit. In this case, I think I would have given up after 6 months. If it was a government project, 3 years would just be considered the “Proof of [...]

there sure is a lot of hot air in the air

This is a shot of the inside of a hot air balloon from a ride we took over southern Indiana in the fall. It’s one of my favorite photos. You can see the sun shining through the fabric of the balloon, and almost feel the heat from the propane burner as it belches fire into [...]
